Blog 9: EQ

1. I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ.
2.
 a.  What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
This EQ doesn't really provide a  stance, meaning that the answer is either going to be a fact from any organization or website. This EQ won't build a strong foundation with it being as simple as it is now, which can be improved.

 b.  What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?
The EQ is sort of confusing and is not that specific as it can be, the format of the EQ can be written in a different way so it can all make sense. Doesn't really encourage depth and rigor on the topic.

c.  What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
The format is not clear at all the wording does not really make sense. You can't really argue anything, the answer can even be a personal opinion, doesn't take a stance. Nor does it provide any kind of framework.

d.  How can an Anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
This EQ has two of the criterias except for one which is, take a stance it won't let you argue a certain point that it might have. And the answer might just be a list or facts of a recitation, which doesn't create depth in any sort of way.
Current EQ: What skill is most important to success as an advertising manager?
Possible draft: How must an advertising manager be successful in the public relations market?
I personally like my first one better because it has helped me a lot with my research to try and provide the exact answer, which has been a challenge.

Blog 8: Research and Working EQ

1.  What is your working EQ?
What skill is most important to success as an advertising manager?

2.  What is a possible answer to your working EQ? Please write the answer in thesis format.
There are many key skills that an advertising manager needs to have in order to succeed in the business. Skills vary from creativity, communication, leadership, projection and project management. But the most important that an advertising manager must have to have the possibility to success is communication. Communication is a crucial skill that is needed in order to project your creativity and leadership so others can understand and acknowledge your work.

3.  What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?

The most important source that has helped me define my EQ is a book called "Hey Whipple Squeeze This" by Luke Sullivan. Along with many others internet sources that has helped me provide a variety of articles, helping me learn a lot more of how advertising works.

4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you volunteering, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?
I am volunteering in a machine shop called Brothers Precision. Volunteering and observing what the manger does has helped me learn the right technique to advertise a price of a product. That is planning how to do it and what to do it on?(Flyers, Ads, etc.)

Blog 7: Independent Component 1 Approval

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
What I specifically plan to do for my 30 hours is volunteering in "Bobby Nava's Advertising" and do a series of contributions to any festivals and upcoming events that they might have. When helping it will at least give me an idea to have an ideal festival with many companies that advertise in it.

2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.
I will show evidence of my 30 hours by meeting the expectation on an 'Independent Component' log and explaining detail by detail what I specifically did and keeping track of my hours that I did everyday. As well as giving a phone number of the person that I worked with.

3.  And explain how what you will be doing will help you explore your topic in more depth.
What I will be doing to discover more things about my topic is doing research more into depth and expanding my knowledge of the topic. As well as observing things that my mentor does to expand the meaning of really how the ideal methods of Advertising are performed.

Blog 5: Project Reflection and Working EQ

The Pentagon
(1) Positive Statement: What positive thing happen as a result of what you have completed so far?
A positive result that happened so far is, I have learned so much of my topic that I didn't know at the beginning. My research has resulted in the knowledge that I have today about my topic.

(2) EQ Content:  Pick a piece of research or your interview.  How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?

It has helped me understand that my topic (Advertising) takes years of experience to become a great and successful 'Advertising Manager', which is a stressful and hard-working job.

(3) What has worked for you so far in the senior project?

What has worked for me is having a deadline every week for 3 articles and having to take notes, which is really helpful to learn more about the topic.

(4) What hasn't worked so far?

What hasn't worked is not having enough resources to find a good mentor or interviewee.
(5) Finding Value:

What are the experiences that you specifically  need to become a successful 'Advertising Manager'?
I plan to do my mentorship in an Advertising Company. Located in Chino, CA.

    Blog 4: Interview Preparation

    1. Who do you plan to interview? Why?

I plan to interview an advertising manager that works in 'Benham Advertising'. I plan to interview her because it is very helpful in discovering and determining what the actual concept "Advertising" is. As well as helping me shape my whole senior project with the EQ and the activities.

    2. You have to ask 5 questions.  What additional questions do you plan to ask?  Ask open-ended questions.  What are open-ended questions?

-How'd you get into this career? What made you be passionate about it?
-What specifically do you do as an Advertising Manager?
-How you get the job specifically for Benham Advertising?
-Other than becoming an Advertising Manager, what were your complete working experiences?
-What was the hugest Ad that you have ever done? How?

Blog 3 Topic Choice and Semester 1 ESLR Goals

    1. Topic: Advertising

    2. What I plan to do this year to show growth on my ESLRs is to be responsible, hard working, and helpful to others. For example My senior topic is Advertising, meaning that in order to succeed in this career you have to have great communication skills and as well as creativity skills. I will be observing and practicing good communication and creativity skills with my mentor, or during my mentorship.

Ipoly Citizen: I'd love to become a part of the Prom commitee.

Effective Leaner: I'm looking forward to learning new things from my mentor and asking effective questions that will help in my development of learning.

Effective User of Technology: I will resarch into complete depth about my topic and the meaning of finding better research and technology skills.

Effective Communicator: I am so far pretty good at this, but I will to communicate even more with teachers when needing help, and expanding even more with my mentor.

    Blog 1 Senior Presentations

    1) The presentations I saw were:
    Gina Thi- Clinical Phamacist
    Clara Amaya- Autism
    Teo Crisanto- Real Estate
    Xavier Albarran- Web Design
    Nicole Diaz- Forensic Photography
    Valerie Nuno- Dance Choreography
    Amanda Nieto- Film Directing
    Taylor McRorey- Scope Surgery
    Rachael Hernandez- Deaf Culture
    Johanis Quiroz- Mexican Folk Art
    Alyssa M.- Molecular Biology
    Evan Mutz- Foley Art
    Alexis Ayala- Teaching Algebra
    Alexa- Violin

    2) I don't have any specific questions to the people that presented their topics.

    3) I think the most important part is trying to invole your 3 answers and activities with your essential question. If they don't have anything to do with the EQ then your whole presentation won't make sense.

    4) I am considering doing Advertising Management because it is interesting and involes with the person I am overall. This topic just excites me to go into with depth and clarity.

    Blog 2 Summer Mentorship Component

Log of specific hours and duties

The full ten hours were at Brothers Precision Machine Shop located in El Monte.
I personally was able to work in the secretary's office to organize paper work that was needed and I was able to observe & learn how a self runned business worked, which is the area that I looked into for my senior component (Business Management).
I Learned the basics of how a personal manger runs a business, with workers salaries, and requiring the specific working machines to get the product needed done etc. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvrouDXCh9b4dEVZTzh6WXdHX3d4bXdrMFM3VW5FN1E#gid=0

    Contact name & Number

    Enrique Murillo- (909) 622-2086

What questions were raised because of the ten hours of experience?

Is this really what I want to deepen my research in?

Will this be enough to work on in my senior component?

Why is working with your personal workers so difficult?

What I gained from this experience?

What I learned from this experience is that it is not to easy to run a business by yourself, you need at least a partner that is also willing to run it with you. It is also hard to work with your own personal workers. As well as organizing the workers salaries and organizing & assigning the specific jobs that need to be completed. I also gained knowledge that I will not like to be a worker working with machines to require getting the metal products done for the order. I'd rather love to be the manager and organizer of everything.

How did it help me choose my topic?

This helped me choose my topic because it helped me learn and experience a new area and made me realize whether I liked it or not which lead me to choosing my topic.
